Peel Street’s new lighting

A lighter approach to brightening Peel Street

Following on from temporary lighting trialled by Renewal SA and the City of Adelaide, permanent lighting for Peel Street has now been installed to support night time activation and revitalisation of Adelaide’s small streets and laneways.

“We have worked with traders in Peel Street to strike the right balance for lighting the laneways, creating atmosphere, and creating a safe area for pedestrians and patrons of the street’s venues, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights.” – City of Adelaide Minister, John Rau

The activation lighting adds to the revitalisation of Adelaide’s small streets and laneways reinforcing the unique qualities that make Adelaide accessible and liveable.

The lighting cost including installation of all fixtures and globes is around $14,000.

Renewal SA and the City of Adelaide are working in partnership to revitalise our laneways. In June 2016 the South Australian Government and City of Adelaide committed $14.6 million to transform a network of small streets and laneways between the Adelaide Central Market and Riverbank to create a destination where communities and businesses can thrive.

Since the introduction of the Small Venue Licence in 2013, approximately 70 new venues have popped up across Adelaide’s laneways stimulating 900 jobs and $70 million in economic activity.
